Essendon (Bombers) Put up a fight against West Coast (Eagles) - AFL 2006

A spirited Essendon has been defeated by West Coast on Sunday at Telstra Dome on Sunday by 21 points. The Eagles 16.17 (113) were too good for the Bombers 14.8 (92) to record their first win over Essendon at Telstra Dome in six outings. It was also just the sixth win by West Coast from 20 matches at Docklands.

Reigning Essendon club best-and-fairest winner Jason Johnson is set to be dropped for next Saturday night's clash against Port Adelaide at Telstra Dome, according to Bombers coach Kevin Sheedy.

Johnson entered the season having undergone surgery last December to repair a ruptured tendon in his left foot.

His pre-season was severely hindered, yet he has played every home-and-away match so far in 2006.

But speaking in his post-match media conference after Essendon's 21-point loss to West Coast at Telstra Dome on Sunday, Sheedy conceded it has been difficult for Johnson in recent times. He said his form meant a return to the VFL, representing the Bendigo Bombers next weekend against Port Melbourne was likely.
